Q: What if my son is new to lacrosse?

A: West Houston Lacrosse Association is committed to developing players of all skill  levels. Each year there are members of the team that range in skill level from beginner to club level players.

Q: What lacrosse equipment do I need to get?

A: Every player needs a black helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, protective cup, mouthpiece, lacrosse stick, and cleats.
**West Houston Lacrosse Association does have all required equipment other than a mouthpiece, protective cup, and cleats that can be provided to all players upon registration.

Q: My son plays multiple sports or has various after-school activities. How much commitment is there?

A: Multiple sport athletes make great lacrosse players! Fall workouts are on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for those without a fall sport commitment.
The official Texas high school lacrosse season runs from January – April with a possibility of playoffs in May.
During the season practices are every day after school with typically one game a week from February – April.

Q: Does participation in lacrosse count as a PE credit for graduation?

A: Full participation in the spring season of Westside lacrosse does qualify for off-campus PE credit in HISD. Lacrosse team members are also eligible to earn a varsity letter in lacrosse.

Q: What fees are associated with playing lacrosse?

A: Lacrosse is not a Texas UIL sport, and the Westside Lacrosse team is completedfunded through the West Houston Lacrosse Association. The registration fee for each player is $750, which includes all fall workouts, the spring season, and any needed equipment. All players also must have a USA lacrosse number which provides full athletic insurance for an annual fee of $35. West Houston Lacrosse Association is committed to finding a path for all interested players to play and has scholarships available for those that are in need of financial assistance.

Q: What is this USA Lacrosse Membership fee and why do I have to pay for it?

A: USA Lacrosse membership fee gives you access to various resources offered by a National organization, including an additional insurance policy.
In order for Westside Lacrosse to participate in various games and tournaments, we need everyone involved to be covered under this membership.
